Having an annual Halloween Movie Night for your family is a great way to celebrate the season together and to create memories that will last for years to come.

1. It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966, USA)

   It’s a family classic and will be for years and years to come.

   Plot: The Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween, with Linus hoping that, finally, he will be visited by The Great Pumpkin; while Charlie Brown is invited to a Halloween party. The story opens with Linus and Lucy going out into a nearby pumpkin patch to find a pumpkin. After a couple of smaller choices by Linus, Lucy points to the biggest pumpkin in the bunch, which Linus clumsily rolls back home. There is no dialogue until Lucy takes a big knife and slices into the pumpkin to gut it, at which point a mortified Linus says "Ohhhh, you didn’t tell me you were going to kill it! Aughh!"

2. Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005, USA)

   Perfect for the younger set, Winnie The Pooh and his engaging set of comrades will get even the youngest goblin in the mood for the big night.

   Plot: It’s a hilariously haunted Halloween in the Hundred Acre Wood, and Roo’s best new pal, Lumpy, is excited to trick-or-treat for the first time. That is, until Tigger warns them about the dreaded Gobloon who’ll turn you into a jaggedy lantern if he catches you. But if they catch the Gobloon before it catches them, they get to make a wish. When Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, Lumpy and Roo decide to be "brave together, brave forever and catch the Gobloon. Celebrate the bumpity and spookable Halloween season with Pooh and his pals in their first Halloween-themed film in eight years.

3. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982, USA)

   The whimsy and imagination of this timeless classic remind us that the impossible truly is possible when we believe.

   Plot: Elliot (Thomas) is your normal boy, until one day, when he meets a little lost alien. Elliot decides to keep the alien, in which he gives the name E.T. Elliot works with E.T. in trying to find him a way to get back home. Elliot must make the difficult sacrifice. Whether to help his new friend or to lose him? Whatever the decision is, Elliot must keep him hidden, as someone else is out to look for him.

4. Monsters Inc. (2001, USA)

   This movie provides a funny and non-threatening take on the relationship between "monsters" and humans.

   Plot: James P. Sullivan (AKA "Sulley") and Mike Wazowski pick up their paychecks at Monsters Inc., the utility company that generates energy from the goose bumps of children. Sulley, the No. 1 scream-generator at the plant accidentally lets in a little girl into the monster world. Since monsters are actually terrified of children it’s a major cause for alarm and a major headache for Sulley and Mike.

5. Casper (1995, USA)

   In this Steven Spielberg live action movie, human actors and a special effects "Casper" shows everyone’s favorite ghost in some funny and compromising moments.

   Plot: A paranormal expert and his daughter bunk in an abandoned house populated by 3 mischievous ghosts and one friendly one. Furious that her late father only willed her his gloomy-looking mansion rather than his millions, Carrigan Crittenden (Moriarty) is ready to burn the place to the ground when she discovers a map to a treasure hidden in the house. But when she enters the rickety mansion to seek her claim, she is frightened away by a wicked wave of ghosts.

6. Bednobs & Broomsticks (1971, USA)

   This timeless Disney movie, has music and mayhem and lots to keep the little ones engaged.

   Plot: An apprentice witch, 3 kids and a cynical conman search for the missing component to a magic spell useful to the defence of Britain. Their first journey is to a street in London where they meet Emelius Browne, headmaster of Miss Price’s witchcraft training correspondence school. Miss Price tells him of a plan to find the magic words for a spell known as Substitutiary Locomotion, which brings inanimate objects to life. This spell will be her work for the war effort.

7. Scooby Doo’s Creepiest Capers

   This is a funny collection of Scooby’s spookiest cases. Along with his goofy group of cohorts, there are always a lot of giggles when Scooby Doo is on the screen.

    

    

    

8. Wallace & Gromit, The Curse Of The Were Rabbit (2005, UK)

   The cool part about this movie is that these characters, even though they seen completely real, are made out of clay. Kids will love to see the inventions that Wallace comes up with and may even want to talk about what inventions that can create.

   Plot:Wallace and his loyal dog, Gromit, set out to discover the mystery behind the garden sabotage that plagues their village and threatens the annual giant vegetable growing contest.

9. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, USA)

   Although there is so much going on in this film that is great to bridge Halloween and Christmas, younger kids may find this one a tiny bit creepy. Stay close to them and the whole family can enjoy this one that has music and great-looking scenes.

   Plot: Jack Skellington is the King of Halloween, but is about to discover something news. Jack becomes bored and tired with the same routine every year, and takes a walk into the woods, in which he discovered a door leading to Christmas time. Christmas time is amazing to Jack, but he doesn’t fully understand the concept. Now, he want to bring Christmas to everyone, and is planning to take over the job from Santa. Problem is, the real world isn’t used to Jack’s lifestyle, and it’s not going to go to plan for Jack at all.
